Mozart in Prague

Mozart was more appreciated in Prague than in Vienna and Salsburg so he visited many times this city. His first host was Count Thun in his palais in Mala Strana, nowadays English Embassy, Thunovska 14 Prague 1, back in January 1787. A gossip tells about a meeting between Mozart and Casanova in the Bretfeld palais, Nerudova 33 Prague 1 during the same stay. During the same period he also lived in the House at the Golden Angel, celetna 29 Stare Mesto Prague 1. He spent most of his second journey in Prague, from September to November 1787, in the Villa Bertramka , at that time out in the countryside and nowadays part of the Smichov district, Prague 5 Mozartova 2. Unfortunately the original villa was destroyed by a fire but nowadays this villa is a museum where you can find some of his original notes and the piano he played while in Prague. During summertime concerts are held in the garden. During the Premiere of Don Giovanni, October 29th 1787 he lived in a house close to the Estates Theatre: House at the Three Golden Lions Uhelny trh 1. During his several trips to Prague Mozart played the organs in the Saint Nicholas Church in Mala Strana and in the Monastery of Strahov. Following his death a special Mass was held in Saint Nicholas in Mala Strana.
